BIO

No stranger to winning awards or being sought after for stages often reserved for those of tenure, anyone that knows Rebecca has experienced and witnessed greatness in the making. While her music is a combination of folk, blues and rock, there’s “that” voice – compelling in range, certain with every note – and her lyrics – strong, thought provoking, storytelling in nature and sometimes peppered with wit.

In December 2017, Rebecca will release her new Folk-Rock EP, “Spirit”. Featuring the song “Valiant of Vimy” that earned top prize in the Spirit of Vimy Contest, hosted by the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta.

Reuniting with her CFMA winning team of Barry Allen and Gord Matthews from Homestead Recorders, songs on the EP will reflect the human spirit and highlight courage, adventure, change and love.

This is a follow-up to her Factor funded genre blurring CD, “Reckless Heart”. Debuting at # 1 on CJSR’s Top 30 and #10 on iTunes Singer/Songwriter Album chart (November 2016), “Reckless Heart” continued to chart on many stations including 5 weeks on CILU Thunder Bay's Top 10 Folk/Roots/Blues Chart. Her producer Russell Broom captured a nomination for Producer of the Year for this CD at the 2017 Western Canada Music Awards. Performing with her 4 piece band, Rebecca and The Revelry did a Prairie Express tour to support the CD and performed for the second consecutive year as a finalist in the 2017 “She’s the One” Contest at the Ottawa Blues Festival. Rebecca and The Revelry have performed at over 100 events. The band is made up of Nick Samoil on keys, Madi Myhre on bass and Evan Stewart on drums.

Always improving her songcraft, Rebecca was selected for the SOCAN Songhouse at 2017 Break Out West, the Open Chair for the Songwriters Association of Canada Songworks Camp in Edmonton (August 2016) and the Prairie Winter Songwriter Retreat in Winnipeg (February 2016). She’s collaborated with notable songwriters such as Nuela Charles, Jay Semko, Mariel Buckley, Chloe Albert, Rob Heath, Beth Portman, Byran Finlay, Lexi Strate, Lynn Tessari, Doug Folkins, Kendra Kay and with producers Dan Davidson, Davor Vulama, and Troy Sampson. She has a publishing deal with Washington Street Publishing in Nashville.

Rebecca is a graduate of MacEwan University’s music program who enjoys volunteering at the Stollery Children’s Hospital under the supervision of the Music Therapist. Rebecca is also busy teaching vocals, piano and songwriting at music schools in Edmonton.

Her story based songs, about history, poetry and life events, will one day be heard by the next generation of folk-rock artists, but for now Rebecca Lappa is captivating Canada with her poise in performance, songwriting talent and “that” voice. All, at the age of 20.
